Actually, I think the tide may have turned on that, or at least be turning.

The pep rally here (right outside my office building) was a mutual love fest, 
with heaps of praise being showered on the mayor by all the NU officials. 
Whether a reaction to a new working relationship, or a huge dose of ass-kissing 
in hopes of building a relationship, it's probably a good sign. 

Clearly some things have changed--the involvement of the city in the whole 
Evanston Day promotional effort was evidence that attitudes of changed. 20 years 
ago, you would not have seen the fountain purple, purple fire hydrants, buy-in 
from merchants, and Sherman Ave closed for a pep rally on a Thursday evening.
