As someone I know once said about officiating, if you don't like it
go buy a whistle and a striped shirt and try doing it yourself.  

I know someone who created his own ranking (and also worked in the IT 
department at The Sporting News for a while), he says it's a LOT of work 
to come up with and maintain computer rankings.  (He also thinks Sagarin
is full of it, though.)
