[NU Sports] The sky is falling...

Last year it was the underachieving defense -- wooten, mcmannis, etc. and we were saved by Kafka to Zeke-Andrew.
Our schedule last year was not exactly world beating:
Vandy is better than Syracuse and we LOST last year
Illinois State is better than Towson
Central Michigan is better than Eastern Michigan
Rice is better than Miami(OH).
yet we lost one non-conference game. Vs. Minnesota we blew a lead. Vs. Purdue we had the strangest(luckiest) end to a 2nd quarter which saved us from an 0-2 conference start.

This year we went 4-0 and 1-1 against generally much better competition. MSU and Ill-whine-I look better, but PSU and Wisconsin don't look as good as 2009.

I agree we should hardly be embarrassed by a 5-1 record, but at the same
time it was a very weak schedule. The toughest part of the season lies
ahead. The Cats in the recent years have risen to the occasion in late season
games against good, favored opponents. It may well happen again. My
principal concern (besides the senseless penalties) is the underachieving
offensive line, a veteran unit we thought would be one of our main strengths this
year. Their contribution to the running game and pass protection has been
lackluster at best. Can the OL turn it around in the second half? Yes,
certainly possible. In fact, absolutely essential if we're to reach that
8-4 plateau.

If someone told me we would be 5-1 headed into the bye week I would have
been happy.

Furthermore if you told me our QB who is a 1st starter would be extremely
accurate, have a decent long ball, be mobile, and rarely make dumb plays I
would be estatic. He is much more developed than Kafka at this point in
the season and he has another year of eligibilty.

Earth to all the chicken littles, it was apparent we weren't challenging
tOSU for king of the big ten this year after seeing non-conference season.
We still have the opportunity to have a 8+ win regular season which is
nothing to scoff at.

It hurt a lot to give the game away at home, but it is not the end of the
world.
