I agree.
This is an exciting team with strengths and weaknesses.
The biggest weakness is the lack of a consistent running game. This is
no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention. I'm sure Fitz will
continue to work on that, but it just may be something we're going to
have to learn to live with. We were able to win last year by using
short "Zeke" passes as our run game. As others have said, we may need
to make a similar adjustment this year.
I agree with coach that our kicking game is likely the fault of a new
snapper/holder combination rather than the kicker. The good news is
that should improve with practice.
The penalties are maddening, but we have led the league in penalties in
the past and still won.
We aren't as bad as we played last Saturday, but we aren't as good as
our 5-0 record led us to believe.
With two weeks for Hank and McCall to cook up something special for MSU,
it should be interesting.
MSU has Illinois for homecoming. We'll get a chance to see how good the
Illinois defense really is. If MSU beats them too, MSU will have a lot
of confidence, a 7-0 record, and a top ten ranking coming into Evanston.
That's right where we want them.
Jeff

If someone told me we would be 5-1 headed into the bye week I would have
been happy.
Furthermore if you told me our QB who is a 1st starter would be
extremely accurate, have a decent long ball, be mobile, and rarely make
dumb plays I would be estatic. He is much more developed than Kafka at
this point in the season and he has another year of eligibilty.
Earth to all the chicken littles, it was apparent we weren't challenging
tOSU for king of the big ten this year after seeing non-conference
season. We still have the opportunity to have a 8+ win regular season
which is nothing to scoff at.
It hurt a lot to give the game away at home, but it is not the end of
the world.
