It looks more and more like we are playing in the Cotton Bowl on New Year's morning--against Texas Tech.? This will be a very tough assignment for several reasons:
?
1) TTU has a 6-5, 222-lb. Senior QB named Taylor Potts--who threw for 3,000 yards this season.? NU has a 6-6, 250-lb. Redshirt Frosh QB named Evan Watkins.? 'Nuff said there.? They have reality; we have potential.
?
2) TTU's Head Coach is Tommy Tuberville, formerly of Auburn.? A good, respected Coach, who has plenty of bowl experience.? In fact, his bowl record is 6-3, and he is only Auburn coach to beat 'Bama 6 times:? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Tuberville
Fitz will have no edge there--not that I am conceding anything either.? Hopefully, some other job possibilities will swirl around Tommy T. over the next few weeks, and perhaps distract his team.
?
3) TTU will be the de facto "home" team--and should be able to bring a lot of fans from Lubbock and other parts of the Lone Star State.?
?
4) TTU has some impressive wins this year in its portfolio--Mizzou and Baylor.? Here's their results for 2010:? http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/schedule/_/id/2641/texas-tech-red-raiders
?
If we had "Danny Boy", I would be confident (at least as confident as I could be, given our bowl losing skein back to 1949), but without him to control the ball, move the sticks, limit the turnovers,?and keep the "D" fresh and off the field, it's very much going to be an uphill battle.
