While I have never heard of BSU being a top academic school I think Chuck is too harsh on their academics.(I.e. A forgettable school) They have several decent programs and have offered their residents a good education at a low price. I also know parents of 2 kids from the Bay Area who attend and seem to be both enjoying themselves and getting a decent education majoring in computer science and english.

As long as we get 1/12 (soon to be 1/13) of the Big Ten bowl haul and TV haul, why would we ever want to share money with the little guys ?

Remember that TCU was in the old Southwest Conference that included the likes of Texas & Texas A&M before the SMU death penalty led to its ultimate demise.
I agree that Northwestern is in a relatively good position in terms of the BCS as a firmly entrenched member of the Big Ten, a conference that greatly benefits from the current system.
BUT I would implore everyone to have a look at who benefits the MOST from the current bowl/BCS system: the BOWLS themselves. Yes, they are technically "not for profit" entities, but it really doesn't appear as such when you see the outings they sponsor and the pay that their executives haul in (plus all of those colored jackets and "scouting trip" costs add up). The numbers aren't hard to argue: a playoff would bring in more overall money and the big conferences would still wield a lot of power, but they would have to share some of it - something they obviously won't allow.
Anyways, I would say just enjoy the product on the field right now because things aren't going to change much, and, it will be a long time before they even change that little bit.

One could argue that we were at the meeting when the Big Ten was created, hence when major power college football was created. So we deserve to share in the riches.

That's a rather bold statement coming from a Northwestern fan, I must say.

Thumbs up to Gordon Gee. The 11 (soon to be 12) schools of the Big Ten helped to create and develop college Football into the sport that it is today. The schools are among the great research institutions in America. Boise is a forgettable school in a very forgettable state. The sooner Boise State disappears off the national radar, the better off we will all be.
Next up, figure a way to screw TCU as painfully as possible. The 'little guys' need to be put in their place and reminded that the 'big guys' developed the sport, and deserve to share the riches. Idaho, stick to tourism and Potato husbandry.

E. Gordon Gee, JD, EdD, BFM, sure didn't do the Big Ten any favors
when he opened his mouth on the BCS.
Never mind that Boise State didn't live up to their season-long
(or longer) hype once they had to play 60 minutes of football
last night.
But what a lost opportunity for Boise State president Bob Kustra.
Rather than argue that Gee had his facts wrong, what Kustra SHOULD
have said was, "Dr. Gee, Boise State accepts your offer of a
home-home series in football."
