[NU Sports] Gordon Gee's big mouth, Kustra's lost opportunity

Remember that TCU was in the old Southwest Conference that included the
likes of Texas & Texas A&M before the SMU death penalty led to its ultimate
demise.

I agree that Northwestern is in a relatively good position in terms of the
BCS as a firmly entrenched member of the Big Ten, a conference that greatly
benefits from the current system.

BUT I would implore everyone to have a look at who benefits the MOST from
the current bowl/BCS system: the BOWLS themselves. Yes, they are
technically "not for profit" entities, but it really doesn't appear as such
when you see the outings they sponsor and the pay that their executives haul
in (plus all of those colored jackets and "scouting trip" costs add up).
The numbers aren't hard to argue: a playoff would bring in more overall
money and the big conferences would still wield a lot of power, but they
would have to share some of it - something they obviously won't allow.

Anyways, I would say just enjoy the product on the field right now because
things aren't going to change much, and, it will be a long time before they
even change that little bit.
