As a follow-up, can anyone answer as to why the field wasn't laid out the way the Bears did for decades--home plate out to left field--see photo here showing same--were seats added????? http://www.stadiumsofprofootball.com/past/WrigleyField.htm

Stewart (a good man and a good writer) is spot on about how this undermines the
"good vibes" and buzz for Wrigleyville Classic, but isn't it better to ensure
the safety of Coach Fitz's (and Zooker's) "young men", than to risk a tragedy in
the name of protecting the honor of the Big 10, NU and/or Illinois?? If anyone
doubts that, ask the Rutgers player who is facing life in a wheelchair.? The
protruding wall was a broken neck waiting to happen--and not just for the pass
receivers--what about the DB's who have to cover, often with their backs
turned?? Better to have this backyard rivalry game turned into a backyard game
period than to have it marred with a sickening injury.?
?
Clearly, as a lawyer, it appears to me that somebody (perhaps a number of
individuals involved) dropped the ball on the measurements of the field vs. the
NCAA rules.? Should the game have gone on and some player (or official) slammed
into the abutting wall, the liability implications would have been
overhwelming.? ?But fortunately this is one of those classic cases where the old
maxim "When in a hole, stop digging,"?is not only appropriaate, but was, in the
end, adhered to.
