I would tend to agree about Fitz leaving. I suppose they could wave a ton of money at him and assistants of his choice, but that is not how PSU usually does things. (Joe Pa had what was then a lot of money waved at him by the Patriots in 1971 that he turned down to "stay with the kids")
And while it's not Notre Dame, there would be a lot more pressure on him to produce than at NU. I don't think PSU would put up with too many mediocre seasons before they would be calling for a relatively newcomer's head
And I can tell you that Morty just loves to talk about athletics. I must have spoken with him for about 20 minutes about our football and basketball programs during a busy graduation weekend this past June. He wouldn't let me leave ! Unlikely that he would let him go without a fight

My thoughts:
The fact that PSU fans think Fitz is a likely candidate is a huge compliment to
Pat, and to the players, staff, and fans that have made the program so
successful of late. PSU is on my very short list of schools you'd be honored to
have show interest in the NU head coach.
However, I'd be really surprised if PSU didn't hire from within.
And I'd be pretty surprised if Fitz left for, well, just about anywhere. I
certainly couldn't blame him for taking the PSU job. But he does seem happy
here, and as noted, NU seems like an almost uniquely perfect fit for Pat based
on his comments about the program and about what college football should be
about. Now that we're seeing the kind of commitment from the university need to
take the program to the next level from an attendance and public interest
standpoint, I'd really be surprised to see Pat look elsewhere anytime soon.
