Fellow Listers:
Following the game I attempted to send the following email to Danny P. (from my office email address).? I sent it to "dpersa at northwestern.edu", but the email bounced back? If anyone knows his correct email address, please send it to me.
My Email:follows:
Dear Dan:
I am a proud Northwestern alumnus, who was thrilled by today's epiccomeback win, and your heroic exploits in leading the way.? I am sosorry to hear of your ruptured achilles heel, on the last play onoffense.
I had achilles surgery two years ago (October 20, 2008, my son David's20th birthday; he's a junior at Bucknell).? I didn't have a rupture, but had tears in my achilles that wouldn't heal.? It is a toughrecovery, but I am happy to say that by March or so I was walking, andby May I was able to run.? Moreover, I have been back in my doublestennis game for many months.? And I was 55 when I had the surgery!? Youare young and amazingly fit and strong for your size.
I know that you will work hard at the physical therapy that will spuryour recovery.? Please know that I (and all of the Northwestern family)will be the wind at your back, rooting for you to take the field inPurple and White next September.? You are, without doubt, one of thegreatest athletes I have ever seen wear those colors.? Bob Griese, announcing today's game, and himself a legendary quarterback at Purdueand in the NFL, was raving about your skills and your judgment andinstincts on the field.?
You will be back, and the 'Cats will carry on in your absence, just asthey did when Coach Fitz went down with that broken leg in 1995, theRose Bowl year.? So get well soon, No. 7.
Sincerely,
Paul Levinson
