[NU Sports] Iowa in 1996

Here's one of my most fond memories from NU vs. Iowa.

1996 was my senior year in NUMB. SjT and I actually made a 10+ hour drive to 
Penn State the week before and watched the Cats lose badly. The '96 Iowa game 
was NUMB's band trip for the season. I hadn't been following the Big Ten long 
enough to REALLY hate Hayden Fry but his comments about NU after the Rose Bowl 
and his smug "I hope we didn't hurt any of your players" comment to Gary Barnett 
certainly didn't make me like him much. 


I don't remember the show NUMB performed (then again I never really learned the 
music to anythng other that Push On, GO U, and for some reason the Ohio State 
fight song). I do remeber it was cold and we had our warmers on for the entire 
game. But I fondly remember how the Cats beat the ever-lovin' crap out of Iowa. 


I will always refer to that game as the Darnell Autry Show. I believe he had 240 
yards and the Cats won something like 40-13. I remember sitting in the endzone 
sing songs and cheering with my fellow NUMB members. It was a great night. The 
Wildcat spritzers that I served back at the hotel for the NUMB party were pretty 
good too.
