Chuck,

I generally like the list. It would take me a long time to accept Duke, but they do meet the academic profile. I would think the travel logistics would make this tough to sell but that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. Along those lines, I think one thing that the conference has to consider with expansion is that travel to regular season games could cannibalize bowl game attendance.

This will be attacked as crazy and unrealistic, so here goes

If the goal of expansion is to form a 16-team 'superconference' that, in  
our case seeks:

- the highest level of academic excellence

- the greatest possible monetary gain (Big Ten network)

- excellence in all athletics

then let's invite the following 6, and take the 5 who accept.

Stanford
Cal
Southern Cal
Notre Dame
Duke
Texas

May as well set our sights high...

Maryland? Really? I do not think they would  leave the ACC. Just don't think
it would happen. They certainly would  compete in basketball and Lacrosse.
But I am not seeing what they would  really bring to the table? And they are
ACC. It is Duke and North  Carolina...I would love to bring them in, because
we could see some real  football around here...but I just don't see it
happening. And I doubt they  bring in 22 million dollars a year to  our
conference?
