Even so, the NIT system makes a lot more sense now than it did a few years ago.
At that time, I think that they just threw 32 teams into a pot and drew names. :) I don't think that there were any brackets, as teams would be matched in Round 1, but they had no idea who the winners would play next. I think they tried to stick to some kind of geographic model, but the whole set-up was pretty strange.
At least there's some logic now...

Yikes! Guess I learned something today. :)
The NIT has sure changed while no one was looking over the past few years. Did this come around when the "no 6-win teams from a major league while there are 8-4 MAC teams out there" bowl rule did?
Oh well, it still seems silly to seed the NIT and have automatic qualifiers. But at least I found out something new.
