[NU Sports] Could be interesting NIT

Can't believe that we have gone from "bubble" of Dance to "bubble" of NIT. We really need at least 2 wins in Indy to bounce back from recent woes and ensure NIT bid.
Meanwhile, for those of you not in NY area, enjoy the Oscars tonight. Cablevision--the same idiots that own the wonderful Knicks and Rangers--are in a major fight with the Mouse House (Disney) over payments the latter is demanding to carry the local ABC affiliate on cable. I have to drive 30 minutes to my mother-in-law to watch. Mouse has pulled Channel 7 off the Cablevision feed. Lovely.....

Thanks - it'd be very disappointing if this is on the mark. Would be great if
he Cats come up with some success in the Big Ten tourney to get in from the
ubble. :)

This site, which has been historically pretty accurate and nailed our
eeding in the NIT last year, as of today has NU out of the NIT, a possible
ubble team:

To answer your question, last year's Stanford team -- a major conference
eam with plenty of history and in the Final Four not long ago -- did not
ake the NIT despite a 20-14 record. They did pony up the bucks for the CBI
nd ended up making it to the semifinals of the tournament before losing to
ventual champion Oregon State.
Without a good run in the BT tourney, if NU does make the NIT, they will
ikely be no better than a #8 seed, playing a #1 seed on the road. Might not
e very pretty given the team's performance away from home this year. An
rgument could be made that the CBI might be a better chance to get some
xperience (and at least a home game out of the deal).

Unless NU wins at least one game in the BTT the NIT is likely out now as
well. The CBI would be a possibility but NU would have to pony up $65K to
host a game in that tournament -- would the school go for that? Stanford
did
last year and got a lot of criticism.
