I think you have to tip your hat to Phillips.

We have a winning team that plays exciting football.

We have a great young media-savvy coach with deep Chicago roots.

We have had good success recruiting athletes from the metro area.

Now is the time to try anything and everything to recruit some new fans.

Barnstorming worked for ND.

It's worth a little barnstorming experiment at NU too if the result is more butts in the seats at Dyche.

The Cubs have already proven that as long as the ivy grows and the beer flows, the fans will show up.

Hopefully some of that Wrigley magic will rub off on NU.

Of course there was no TV back then....

Having to college game in your backyard with ND was a big deal, especially when the local
Priest pumped it up the Sunday before.

I would bet that in some towns with high Roman Catholic populations, the number of
"Rambler" fans outnumbered the local college's

Fellow Wildcub Faithful,

I won't be able to attend this game regardless of where it is played, but I don't see any
downside to trying a game at Wrigley. Yes there will be logistical issues, but none that
would prevent a true fan from going to the game. NU football isn't an established brand
name like Michigan, Nebraska or USC. For use, all publicity is good publicity (outside of
the police blotter).

I hate to tip my hat to Notre Dame, but when Knute Rockne was at the helm they would take
their team anywhere in the country to play a game (I believe the term was 'barnstorming'
back in the day) at that exposure helped them build a strong national brand. I know one
game 7 miles south of Evanston won't have the same effect, but what could it hurt?

Trey McAdams wrote an excellent email pointing out how NU can make this an NU event rather
than just a non-home game. Throw in a Sox-fan quote from Fitz saying "For the first time
in my life I'm cheering for the home team at Wrigley" and you can have some fun with this
one.

Victory & Honor,
Jim
