> Lesson 3: Make it count. The Big XII game was meaningless from the day Nebraska didn't even PLAY in it and still went on to the national title. Then OU got clobbered and STILL played for the B(C)S title. So who cares about winning. The SEC game, OTOH, has helped teams rebound from earlier losses to become title contenders and served as a 'play-in' game as well. It means something to win it and I think we will have that as well. Teams like Iowa that play better in November than September should LOVE this - it gives them a chance to rebound from September stumbles and get a big win on a national stage on the final night of the year -- not four weeks before.
I think you need to get your facts straight here. It was not Big XII rules that enabled
those teams to make it to the BCS title game, it was the poorly designed (and redesigned
and redesigned and redesigned and redesigned) BCS rules themselves. The Big Ten schools
were JUST as complicit as the Big XII schools in that ongoing fiasco, and unless the BCS
rules get changed by 2011/12 it may be a Big Ten or Pac 10 school which benefits.
BTW, it isn't clear when the Pac 10 will get their title game going, Utah joins the Pac 10
in 2011 but Colorado doesn't join until 2012, unless the Big XII lets them go early.
That isn't very likely as the Forlorn Five appear to be willing to give up their share
of any confiscated fees from Nebraska or Colorado to Texas and its henchmen. Stay tuned
on this one, it could get interesting once the lawyers get involved.
