Subject: [NU Sports] It's Official, from the Nebraska side
UNL Board of Regents voted to apply for membership in the Big 10, with
competition to begin in 2011. Assumption is that approval of the request
is a done deal.

Interesting tidbit, explains much of what drove this:
Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Tom Osborne have just spoken before the NU
Board of Regents. Among the highlights:
Perlman: The Big 12 asked for a commitment from NU through at least
2016. Nebraska, in turn, asked for a commitment from the University of
Texas that it would assign all athletic broadcast rights to the
conference and thus not begin its own network. Texas declined, he said.
Perlman: Nebraska plans to begin athletic competition in the Big Ten in
2011.
Osborne: This will not be a economic windfall for NU athletics.
Tom
