[NU Sports] Big Ten Expansion this week?

Intriguing article on Yahoo sports about the blame game and how - in the end - the Big XII has no one to blame but themselves (doesn't make Delaney out to look too nice, though :) ) ...

And Texas can point fingers at Nebraska/Mizzou for leaving and they can point right back at Texas' moneyhogging of the conference cash ... what is clear is that the Big XII is pounding the final nails into their coffins as we speak.

The question now should be whether the Big East is toast. That depends on the Big Ten. If we make offers to Rutgers and Pitt or Syracuse, the league falls apart. If we lure the Irish out of denial and leave our eastern options at that, then it probably survives (and is better for not having the Irish exception).

As for the ACC's future, that depends on the SEC. If they want to join the "sweet 16" club, and they can't make a last-ditch play for Texas, then they'll likely have to raid the ACC.

So the Pac 10 is about to destroy the Big XII ... the Big East has their fate resting on the Big Ten ... and the ACC is suspiciously eyeing the SEC's next move. :)

I like Mike's analysis about the upcoming game of musical chairs and who will be left out ... I dunno if KSU is looking all that good either (Kansas, OTOH, would seem to fit in the Big Ten certainly as much as UNL) ... and if the Texas legislature plays hardball and Colorado's left out, they could be on the verge of being a power player by adding CU and Boise State.

If we do get to the 16-team Pac Ten and Big Ten, though, I think we need to get out of the B(C)S and play our respective conference title games the first weekend in December with the winners heading to PASADENA on January 1. If the SEC folk want to get a "plus one" after that, fine, but a Pac 16 - Big 16 Rose Bowl would be perfect!

GO CATS!!!
