[NU Sports] Pac 10 to invite 6 Big XII schools to join?

The big key seems to be Texas -- they're the one being courted by the three major conferences and they're the ones with the choice. The other key is who Texas wants to take along with them. Will they bring OU? Or just fellow Texas schools?

I still think the smart move would be Texas to the Big Ten -- they'd get the most academically and money wise ... but they don't seem to want that. And thankfully, they seem to hate the SEC as much as the rest of the country. Which leaves the Pac 10. It's a massive distance thing, but they would join some fine universities and have much more TV clout along the west and southwest.

Notre Dame will be forced to jump soon - either by the Big XII crumbling or by the Big East giving them an all-sport-or-else demand. They could be smart and get ahead of the curve and just join the Big Ten ... but they're Notre Dame and they're stubborn.

The league seems to want Mizzou and UNL ... the Huskers bring a national following but I'm still puzzled as to what Mizzou brings. Kansas would bring more. K-State and Iowa State better start making friends in CUSA.

So Texas & Friends appear to be looking west, Notre Dame will eventually head to the Big Ten ... the ball is then in the SEC's court. FSU and Miami would be natural fits, as would Clemson and GaTech ... or do they move beyond the conventional and make a play of Oklahoma or perhaps get Kentucky a pard'ner up north in Louisville? Or reach up the east coast with Maryland?

It's a pretty fun off-season already! There appear to be several dominoes on the brink of falling and the Big XII looks ready to collapse and the Big East and ACC are going to have to merge or fight for their lives.

My Big Ten wish list still goes ...

TIER I (Big F'ing Deal): Texas and the Evil Empire

TIER II (Good moves): Nebraska, Maryland, Syracuse, BC

TIER III (Safety school): Missouri or Kansas

TIER IV (Desperation): Rutgers or Pitt
