[NU Sports] Is 2010 the last great Big Ten race?

Interesting article ... but I'd argue the flip side on a couple points.

First, don't discount those Big Ten titles! They're hard to get and a team that heads to Pasadena has earned it, regardless of who's off the schedule. In 1995, we were 8-0 and Ohio State was 7-1. We beat Michigan, they didn't. I'm sick of hearing Buckeye fans whine about that year. Get over it. In 1994, the Bucks barely escaped an NU team that had some shady characters possibly not giving it their all - who's to say we don't win in 1995 or 1996? That November win over Penn State on ABC in 1995 was a cherished memory for Cats fans. The nation was watching and we beat the defending Big Ten champs. Purdue had their sweet win in 2000 over Michigan at home. Ask Nebraska fans ... title games don't always mean that the best team wins the league.

And to go along with that as a second point, the great race is just beginning! Think of the games we'd get to see WITH a title game! A battle of unbeatens as Iowa and Ohio State clash in 2002 ... the national title game everyone wanted in 1994 with the Huskers and Lions ... we might have a few title games like the SEC that pit an upstart underdog against a goliath (unlike the Big XII, the SEC one hasn't quite produced that Arkansas or Auburn upset) ... or we get the mammoth #1 vs. #2 game like the SEC has had as well.

I, for one, can't wait for it! If for nothing else than to stop fans in Columbus from going through the schedule each year and crying about some team missing the Buckeyes and getting lucky. :)

GO CATS!!!
