EVANSTON, Ill. - Kevin
Coble<http://nusports.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/coble_kevin00.html>
(Scottsdale,
Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) has chosen to forgo his senior season as
a member of the Northwestern men's basketball team. He intends to complete
his education at NU and is slated to earn his degree in political science in
December 2010.
"We wish Kevin nothing but the best in his future endeavors," Northwestern
head coach Bill
Carmody<http://nusports.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/carmody_bill00.html>
said.
"We want to thank him for his contributions to the program over the past
four years."
Coble concludes his time at Northwestern ranked 14th in school history with
1,203 career points. He led the Wildcats in both scoring and rebounding in
each of his three seasons, including becoming the first player in program
history to do so his freshman season. A member of the 2006-07 Big Ten
All-Freshman Team, he was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection as a
sophomore before being named to the All-Big Ten second team his junior year.
Coble sat out the 2009-10 season after suffering a season-ending foot injury
in a preseason practice.
He appeared in 81 career games, including making 78 starts, and averaged
14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.
"I would like to thank Northwestern University and the administration for
all that they have done for me," Coble said. "In addition, the fans have my
sincere gratitude for their support of Wildcat Basketball. I will miss
seeing them at the games. Most importantly, I want to thank my teammates for
the opportunity to play with them and I wish them nothing but the best in
the upcoming season. There is not a better group of guys than those found on
this team and I will miss being on the court with them.
"With that said, the recovery of my foot is most important and extends far
beyond my basketball career. I will continue to follow my surgeon's
rehabilitation schedule and have been told by my surgeon that I will have a
full recovery. I will not be transferring to another school and with that,
will be finishing the last of my classes at Northwestern this fall."
