[NU Sports] Big 10 Championship Game--Possible Venues

Well, I'm definitely for a cold weather B(C)S game so we're not always playing on the SEC's or USC's home turf in January. :)
But ... ain't gonna happen. :)
Sorry - couldn't resist.
Actually, the rotating host idea is being thrown out in Pac 10 country. They usually don't get large amounts of fans traveling to away games, and a "centralized" game in LA would probably draw ACC-like crowds if the hometown teams weren't in it ... so they may float either regional sites (Seattle, Phoenix, LA, etc.) or actual on-campus sites.
The Big Ten, though, is much more like the SEC where fans DO travel to away games in large numbers and so a neutral, central site like Indy makes sense. And while you might be able to throw together the MAC title game in a coupel weeks or find a high school stadium in Florida to host the ACC game, the Big Ten game will be on par with the SEC's game - this will be a "big effin' deal" and not something you'd want to head into the last weekend of the year not knowing where it would be.
Though if the Big Ten and Pac 10 did rotate hosts, it would take another argument away from the B(C)S "cartel" - after all, if State College or Ann Arbor could mobilize to host a title game on 2-weeks notice, on-campus sites could do the same for round one of a ... say it with me ... PLAYOFF!:)
Interesting ... but I still say we go with the hub host ala SEC/Atlanta and that would be Indy.
GO CATS!!!

Steven and List Gang,
I humbly disagree with the esteemed Mr. Truog concerning Big 10 Championship game. We need to show off Big 10 country, whether it be Chicago, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Detroit, Minneapolis, East Rutherford, or here's a change of pace: Lincoln, NB; where Iowa and the new NU would feel at home.
I suggest a "spread the wealth" idea. I see no reason why alternative sites can't handle (1) more game. After all, "...they've done this before!"
The pratfall is that (1) more game may mean (1) more losses, as Steven has pointed out in past posts. But the fact remains that if we (Big 10) play Thanksgiving weekend; 2 weeks later in the championship game; we'll all be much more prepared to play in bowl games. And who knows, maybe seeing big games in Chicago, New York, Indianapolis with the roof open will convince a BCS game in cold weather?
Don't give me that shit that "It won't happen!" More Bowl games are turning up north ( I was at the Eagle Bank Bowl in DC LAST YEAR; game time stART A (oops) a balmy 23 degrees.
This is the first step towards meaningful football played in meaningful weather. At the game I was at, Temple lead at half-time by 10 points, but Bernard Pierce, who rushed for over 1200 yards, went out with an injury. UCLA came back and won. T%hey said they hated the weather, but the biggest reASON FOR losing the game was that TU had no running game, so UCLA keyed against the pass, as they knew TU wouldn't (or couldn't) run the ball without a top flight Div. 1 running back. (MAC vs. PAC 10).
...they hated the weather. Can someone open their (*^*&$% eyes? We need a cold-weather BCS game. We are the Big 10; joined by the Big East, and to a certain extent, the ACC. Raise your hand if you want LSU playing OSU, IOWA, Penn St., Mich. St. or our Cats on 1/1 at Soldier's Field? That's what I thought.
College Football changes. Look at the conference switches., as well as bowl games being played in the north. Let's get those !@#$% to come up north.

Barnstorming? Like Notre Dame's great "Wazzu in the Alamodome" tour? :)
Actually, if they do rotate it, Giants Stadium might not be a bad idea ... and
Lambeau Field, though I'm not a Packer fan, would be amazing. It's one of the
true cathedrals every fan should see at least once.
But y'all know it's Indy. :)
GO CATS!!!
