[NU Sports] Ouch

This may not be a valid comparison...

But heaing into a game like Tuesday's game at the Gophers (i.e. underdogs, on the road, but not a super opponent), I would have great confidence that a Pat Fitzgerald-coached team would make the game very competitive, and would favor the Cats slightly based on superior coaching/leadership/motivation.

I was in Minneapolis Tuesday, but didn't bother to go to the Willams Arena - I had zero confidence that a Bill Carmody-coached team would execute the fundamentals, or make necessary adjustments, and (besides the single digit temperature) I feared the likely defeat and the subsequent abuse at the hands of the Gopher fans at the arena.

When I have Fitz and Hank on the sidelines, I go almost anywhere (maybe the only two exceptions are Columbus and the Happy Valley) with confidence that we will be in the game, and have a very good chance to win it. I am confident that our coaches and players will outwork, outstrategize and out motivate our opponents. Even though we were big underdogs in Tampa, I went into that game with confidence, as Fitz has taught us to have confidence (What was GB's old mantra - faith without proof ?).

Having BC on the bench doesn't give me any confidence that guys will execute the fundamentals, turn in performances above and beyond what we expect, make good adjustments or outthink the opponents. It happens, but I don't anticipate it. I have always thought that having BC on the bench makes me expect turnovers, cold shooting (without adjustment), and breakdowns in fundamentals.

I recognize that BC has won a lot of games here, but I never feel the same confidence with BC in charge of his team that i feel with PF in charge of his team. It's better than the Bill Foster days, but I get the sense that a lot of us would not march into battle behind BC - he'd forget to organize the infantry that morning. On the other hand, it seems that PF could lead any of us into the Battle of Balaclava and have us feel like Lord Cardigan would win the thing.

Am I 100% off-base on this confidence gap ?

While I doubt this team will lose out....
If NU did dump Carmody after this year, whoever came in would probably make
he tournament with the guys who are here now, especially if the two wounded
arriors came back.
However, I'd really be surprised if NU changed coaches after this year -
e're finally soooo close we can taste it.

As for the annual "Fire Bill Carmody" campaign - that depends. Imagine
f (let's pray reverently this is not the case) the Cats don't win
nother game.

till am thrilled that we are even having the discussion. But its seems
lear that we will need to win at least 1 or 2 games that the CW had as
osses and then have a few prayers thrown in as well. I do think if we
re on the bubble we would get in out of sympathy and a perceived
ntree to strong chicagoland audience
I wasn't aware that either of those were factors the NCAA selection
ommittee used.
It seems like this bandwagon has more stops that the #151 bus at rush

he Cats were never much more than a long shot, especially once Coble

ut perhaps for a change we won't have the annual 'fire the coach'
