why a college in Tampa is
called "South Florida?"
 
The explanation I have heard is that all the other names were taken  ;)
It is a lot farther south than FSU or UF, and UCF which is now the 4th  
biggest school in the US at about 45000 student types in Orlando is in serious  
competition with the other Florida degree factories.  This is all about $$$ 
 my friends, any more questions...
