   Don and List Gang,

This may be the best post I've read on our list! Priceless! I'm sure you'll never forget the PA announcements calling for the Generals and Admirals to get to work.
And the 73-0 game; for sure this fan would've survived NU's Dark Ages! My first game was in the Dark Ages. In 1978, I was a Sophomore at Elgin H.S. in Elgin, Ill. Keep in mind I had lived in Elgin for a couple of months, as my Dad was transferred to Chicago by York International (now owned by Johnson Controls). I was raised in York, Pa. to be a Penn St. fan.
So we decided to go see Michigan at NU, and it was Homecoming and a big opponent. There were 30,000 there that day; from what I was told the biggest crowd, by far, to attend an NU game that season.
I believe it was Rick Leach who QB's Michigan, and they were winning 35-0 when NU mounted a drive near the end of the 2nd quarter. Anyway, we score on the last play of the 1st half, and those who were in purple went ballistic! It was a RB with the first name of Lou (forget his last name!) who scored; the students went nuts, the band played, the team celebrated...I was hooked! If these people could so excited over a meaningless TD, just imagine the possibilities!
I love being an NU fan. Even as a fan, not a graduate, what we (I say "we" as I've given hundreds, maybe thousands? to NU via Wildcat Fund, tickets, T-Shirts, etc. through the years.) stand for in college sports must be preserved.
Exceptional academics, "team" before "me", and eventually, winning. I believe we are in the process of taking Notre Dame's place as the premier midwest academic football power-house. Fitz will get it done; Barnett and Walker were great teachers (minus a few "clinks" with GB).
I saw NU take down Michigan St. in the 79-80 season with Magic Johnson and Greg Kelser. Carmedy has been given the luxury of time; it looks like he's on the right track.

Thank You for letting me "go on." I love this list and love Cat sports. Now let's beat the @#$%& out of Minnesota tomorrow night! Eric GO CATS!!

My first college game was in 1951. NU played Colorado and won. In fact we
on the first four games that year, including Army and the Naval Academy. I
ad just returned from Korea that July and was in absolute awe of my
urroundings and the complete college atmosphere. The first NFL game was in 1940
watching the Washington Redskins. I don't remember the team but season
ickets for six home games came to a grand total of $6.60, a $1.10 per game for
end zone seats. On Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941 the Redskins were playing the
hiladelphia Eagles when the public address announcer started to page people.
Would General so-and-so report to the War Department." or "Would Admiral
lank please report to his office." And through the stadium the word was
assed that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. And, yes, I saw the 73-0
hellacking that the Chicago Bears handed to us. One small vignette from the
ame:
here were about three minutes remaining in the game and the Bears had just
cored their 66th or 67th point when the guy in front of me rose unsteadily
o his feet and announced to his neighbors. "Well. that was the touchdown
hat beat us!"
