[NU Sports] Parsing the latest Commit

Walker always had a group of RBs in the pipeline, and it took Sutton to
break thru as a true frosh to break that up.

If you think back to Walker's era, he almost had a different 1,000+ rusher
every year, and that rusher was either a RS Junior or Senior.

Sutton came in and blew away the competition (the way RW thought he would)
but Walker wasn't there to help mold the future RBs.

I think Fields, & Co. will be good down the road, with a better O-Line, and
more practice. Persa is very fast - and with him and a decent runner behind
him, we should see an improved running game.

Remember that the "pundits" were wrong about Kafka too.

Didn't know much about the kid, but before the decommit he was promoted
by NU/press as a "stud".

The larger question is who else do we have in the pipeline?

We all have expectations that the O line will get better as a result of
experience and another year in the weight room.

The disappointment this year is that nobody really jumped up and took
over the RB job in the ways that Sutton, Herron, and Wright have in the
past.

The young man who decommitted and went to Iowa State, Shontrelle
Johnson, wasn't exactly a "stud" commit -- he was another little guy RB,
sort of an Arby Fields, ranked as a 3-star. He did have a great senior
year that raised his stock, but there were many folks who weren't that
impressed with him when he was an NU commit.

Of course, once he jilted us, he became an outstanding RB who would be
the savior of the program, who no doubt would have scored untouched from
the 5 in the Outback Bowl. Sort of like the ex-girlfriend who seemed
plain and whiny when you dated, but now seems like a beauty queen
because she is dating some cool guy.
