That can only be good news.

I wasn't very optimistic about Kafka before the start of the season, but
he proved that he could throw even better than he ran.

If Persa goes through a similar transformation, the future is bright.
If not, we may struggle next year with a freshman (did Watkins
redshirt?).

I'm also concerned about the running game.  We didn't really have anyone
step up this year and become "the man" and our stud RB recruit
decommitted.

Interesting quote from Kain Colter - NU's latest QB commit:

 

Looking at how they're going to lose (senior Mike) Kafka, and then there
are only two guys (freshman Evan Watkins and sophomore Dan Persa) coming
back, that was a big deal," Colter said. "Its' just going to be me and
this other kid from the class (Siemian) competing. I just want to be
able to play early and I think I can compete for a spot.

 

You have to figure Persa as the #1 guy on the depth chart, just because
he's got experience, but you get a feeling that NU is telling kids they
can break thru and compete - the same message Randy always had.
