[NU Sports] a minority position

Lane was close to coming to the Big Ten. Kiffin was one of the finalists
for the Minnesota job (when Tim Brewster was hired) a few years ago just
before he went to Oakland, and there was even a report, denied by the U of M
AD, that Kiffin had been offered the Minnesota job. (Charlie Strong,
Florida's DC until being hired as Louisville's head coach last month--one of
those three new Kentucky head coaches--was the other finalist.) A lot of
Gopher fans wish that local product Kiffin, a graduate of Bloomington
Jefferson High School here in the Twin Cities (dad Monte was with the
Vikings), had been hired instead of Brewster, or that Strong had been picked
instead. Personally, I agree with those who think you give any college head
coach at least four years--probably five--to see what he can do. That said,
it would have been interesting to see what it would be like right now at
Minnesota had Kiffin been hired instead of Brewster.

I agree with Alan's "capable football coach" opinion, whatever Kiffin's
personality or tactics may be (unless those tactics include cheating).
There are plenty of coaches I don't like but have to concede their talent or
at least their effectiveness. Keep in mind that Tennessee lost to Alabama
just 12-10, and only because a last-play field goal attempt was blocked by
the Crimson Tide.

Made my day, John. Very well done :>

He was the offensive coordinator at USC during the glory years. He can
coach. To that point, his dad can coach, too, and defense wins.

Roscoe's is pretty good, by the way! For those unfamiliar with the
concept - chicken and waffles sounds like a godawful concept. Until you
try it!

"I have spoken with Lane. Believe me, he is one capable football coach."

Yikes Alan, he has never won anything except the hot wife sweepstakes,
next you will be weeping with Mark over his bad luck playing in the
steroid era, or claiming Roscoe's chickin' n waffles is fine dining.
