There is a classic series of "Peanuts" from 1962 where Charlie Brown and
Linus are lamenting the SF Giants losing the World Series. The Giants lost
the last game 1-0; Willie McCovey came up with two outs in the bottom of the
ninth with runners on second and third, and hit a screaming line drive that
was caught by the first baseman to end the Series.

Charlie Brown and Linus just sit looking at the ground, clearly very
depressed, not moving for the first three panels, then, in the fourth,
Charlie Brown says, "Why couldn't McCovey have just hit the ball three feet
higher?"

The next day, almost identical strip, except in the end Charlie Brown says
"Why couldn't McCovey have just hit the ball two feet higher?"

I, like Tom above, have been Charlie Brown all week, thinking of missed
field goals, interceptions and that last play of the game, wishing a million
times I could wake up and things went oh-so-slightly different and we had
pulled it out. Still, also very proud of the team and coach.

Hopefully some day in the future I will be over the game and can start
getting excited about the Cats again. This one is taking a long time to
leave me though!
