> I think, outside of Jonathan, we have reached a consensus that the coaching staff needs to pay much more attention to special teams. Whether that means hiring a special teams coach or not (I say yes) more special teams work is definitely necessary. Hideous kick coverage would almost certainly have cost NU the Outback in regulation were it not for the forced fumble.
Consensus? Not here.
What position(s) are you willing to see LESS coaching in, since the NCAA has a
limit on the number of coaches a team can have and (like virtually every
school in 1-A) we have the maximum number of coaches? There are also only so
many hours in a day and even fewer hours in practice sessions.
Nebraska has a PK specialist but he doesn't do kickoffs, I think the guy who
does them is the backup PK. He doesn't always reach the end zone, either and his
out of bounds kickoff towards the end of the Big 12 Championship game was a big
factor in Texas winning the game.
I have been told by a former Nebraska coach that they don't really WANT the kickoffs
to reach the end zone, that the place they want them is between the goal line and
the 5, because that way they've figure they've got got about a 50-50 chance of
pinning the team inside the 20. (And for sure they don't want them going out
of bounds!)
Has anyone seen an injury report on Demos?
