[NU Sports] Alamo Bowl analysis...

Ugh - I really couldn't watch much of the Alamo or Sugar bowls because of all the off-field drama. It was just unpleasant to hear about it. Urban Meyer is the college football Brett Favre (egomaniacal diva who clings to that spotlight), Tebow is the football Christian Laettner (good guy but enough already) and the MSU/Texas Tech situations are just downright embarrassing for the two universities. Ugh - mute please!
I was actually more intrigued by another bowl yesterday (and not that cure for insomnia known as the Cotton Bowl "classic") -- I think NU fans can bond with our colleagues in purple from East Carolina. They seemed to have as many missed FGs to win it as we did and lost in OT heartbreak to an SEC team.
And speaking of the SEC, some guys have all the luck! Yeah, they're 5-4 as a league, but the Sugar Bowl win was basically a mismatch of epic proportions and two of their other wins were OT squeakers against teams who outplayed 'em but couldn't outkick 'em.
But back to the original topic :) ... Texas Tech's truth probably is in the middle. Spoiled Twitter generation player, dumb move by Leach and a decision about saving money by the administration. Blah blah blah.
As for the game itself, MSU did a LOT better than I thought they'd do and -- like NU and Minny -- had plenty of chances to win it at the end. Gotta work on those two-minute drills, Big Ten teams!
