List Gang,
I'm a little slow ( those that know me would say "very slow"); Brad was right as I remember his posts bemoaning our past performances with Penn St. (PSU has won 8 of 9; blek.)
I'm of the opinion that our depth has caught up; the second half of the the conference schuedule in late February. As witness, Curletti and Capocci have seen their first meaningful minutes...since last season. Please, I'm not trying to rip any one; just stating a fact. Rawley isn't "cutting it", so Bill did the right thing by giving some one else a chance. The fact is, 35-40 minutes per game for our starters is catching up with us, particularly on defense where we need to play aggressive.
Still, if we win 3 of the next 4, we assure ourselves of a 20 win season. My prediction was 17 wins with Coble and Ryan missing.
Plan for the Big 10 tournement: After the Wisconsin loss, would it be better to rest the starters, to a certain degree? Consider: Iowa: ESPN game, a chance to break record for wins and home wins: business as usual; play to win, play starters 35-40 minutes.
Games at PSU, Chic. St., at Indiana. They mean nothing, as we are not going to be an "at large" as our RPI is out of sight. Play our starters 20 minutes to keep sharp. Get the legs fresh, as we will need to win 4 games in 4 days to win the conference tournement. We've shown we can play with every team in the conference; even our road game at MSU was better than our home game.
Or do we try to win our last 4; finish 21-10, 9-9 in conference, and take our chances in tournement
with tired legs? I see no way we will do this, not with little help coming off the bench.
I say after Iowa, rest our starters. If we can't take the conference tournement, the rest will be good for a deep run into the NIT's.
GO CATS!! Eric

IF we can beat Iowa at home, we're looking at 7-11 in the Big Ten and probably
n 8/9 seed in the tourney. That would get us the #1 seed in the second game,
f we can win our first.
Despite all this team's effort and promise, it's shaping up to be like most
ther years.
We still shoud get an NIT bid, but who knows? We faced a pretty easy schedule
n the second half and have underperformed badly.
Well, spring sports look to be pretty solid.

I was right to be worried about Penn State but I surely thought NU would win the
ome game.
n awful, uninspiring and embarrassing loss that will earn NU jeers and laughter
s inept and pathetic -- and all deserved.
ntil this team can beat Penn State on a regular basis it will go nowhere.
