[NU Sports] Those bleepin' Lions ...

Marcotullio's great start to the season faded and he lost confidence in his shot and that affected the rest of the game - - not unusual for many freshmen. He has the ability as he showed early when he confidently hit shots and played aggressively on offense and defense, but his decline has been a big detriment to the team. His capacity to regain the touch and the attitude will be very important in the future.

BC is known for doing that....
I wonder how the rotation would work if Coble was able to play - he's another guy you don't take out much....
And Marcatullio should probably play more - his defense isn't all that bad, and he is supposed to be BC's new Mad Bomber.

I believe team is wearing down. Carmody seems to have lost faith in bench and starters are simply logging too many minutes. Shurma's legs were gone by middle of Second Half.
Hence the poor shooting from beyond the arc. Couple that with PSU hex and we have a horrible loss.

After the game, Carmody sounded just totally bummed out on WGN - he said he changed - adjusted some of the 1-3-1 coverage but couldn't get any pressure on the wings.
All of State Penn's starters hit double figures.
John Shurna started hot, and finished with 17, but Kaplan noted that he seemed to disappear in the 2nd half.
Frosh Drew Crawford only scored 5, with 3 rebounds. It seems that someone figured out how to keep him from scoring and sent out an e-mail.
NU was one FG and 2 FT's behind at the turn, but couldn't stop the Lions when it counted.
Add a dismal 29% 3 point shooting in the 2nd half and you can see why the Cats couldn't come back.
If we don't get a bid, and it is looking awfully shaky out on the bubble's bubble, it's because we didn't beat the "beatable" teams down the stretch.
A win at Wisconsin Sunday would certainly raise the RPI, and winning the rest of our games will help, but beating Iowa and State Penn were two games we almost had to have.
Oh well, there's always the Big 10 Tournament.

I am just heartbroken for this team right now -- they have come so far this year and they appeared to be on the verge of something special, but PSU just has our number and to have things collapse like this is just heartbreaking.
I sure hope they can respond, but this one hurts.
There's still hope, but we have absolutely no margin of error now.
GO CATS!!!
