Thanks to GoogleMaps ...

The distance from Austin, TX to ...

- PSU: 1548 miles
- OSU: 1234 miles
- MCH: 1369 miles
- MSU: 1349 miles
- IND: 1078 miles
- PUR: 1129 miles
- ILL: 1032 miles
- IWA: 1042 miles
- MIN: 1172 miles
- WIS: 1243 miles
- NU:  1178 miles

By comparison, the furthest current trips in the major conferences:

* BIG TEN (the shortest among the big six)
Minnesota to Penn State - 974 miles
* SEC
Arkansas to Florida - 1029 miles
* BIG XII
Texas to Colorado - 1082 miles
* BIG EAST
South Florida to UConn - 1305 (to Providence for basketball - 1343 mi)
* ACC
BC to Miami - 1504 miles
* PAC TEN
Washington to Arizona - 1622 miles

For kicks ...

- If Texas joined the Pac 10, Seattle to Austin is 2280 miles!
- PSU to Mizzou is 851 miles
- PSU to Nebraska is 1075 miles
- Minny to Syracuse is 1087 miles
- Minny to Rutgers is 1205 miles

And for those who say Texas would be a better fit for the SEC or Pac 10:

- Texas to Atlanta: 969 miles (SEC center)
- Texas to Indianapolis: 1095 miles ... so not much difference
- Texas to Los Angeles: 1420 miles
- Texas to Bay Area (real "center" of Pac 10 geographically): 1773 miles

Finally, for the "could be worse" file ...

- The WAC trip for Hawaii to LaTech is 5255 miles

However, at least the GoogleMaps directions say to "kayak" across the Pacific Ocean as you leave Honolulu, as opposed to when their directions tell you to "swim across the Atlantic" in going from New York to Paris.:)

So in case you're curious ... or a numbers geek ... :)

GO CATS!!!
