Sadly, the bar isn't too high on the last part of that...if the Cats beat Chicago State and go .500 in the remaining conference games and win a game or a couple of games in the NIT, it'll go down as the team's best season ever. If the Cats only beat Chicago State and lose every other remaining game, it'll be one of the team's best seasons ever (I am not suggesting that's what will happen).
And any of the above is probably a lot better than anybody would have expected when Coble went down for the season.
Despite the tough loss yesterday, there could be plenty of excitement ahead. There is a glimmer of hope for the NCAAs and plenty of hope to continue a memorable season.

There was an article in the Trib yesterday that painted a very grim picture of the Wildcat's chances (and apparently the 'Cats were aware of that story, although it didn't seem to help). If that picture was accurate, I would think the big dance chances are very, very slim at this point.
The big problem is that those early non-conference wins just aren't holding up as well as we would like, as some of our "big" non-con opponents are not faring well.
Winning out including a win over Wisconsin might do it, but that seems pretty unlikely. This is a good team, but not a great team.
Fortunately, there's always the possibility of winning the Big Ten tournament. Not likely, but not out of the question, particularly if we get some help from another mid-pack team knocking off one of the top dogs, making our path easier.
Still, an awful lot to play for this year--could still go down as one of the best NU seasons ever.
Tom
