If he was the DC or special teams coach at miami it would have really meant a connection. On a stretch one could have argued that his coaching caused our fumbles and bad snaps vs miami

Jim Caldwell was not the only coach in Super Bowl with a connection to NU (He was Asst. Coach under Dennis Green.).  I read in today's NY Times that Sean Payton had coached earlier in his career at Miami of Ohio.  So I looked it up, and, lo and behold in 1995-96 (when 'Cats went to Pasadena, and RW knocked off Gary B. for only loss of year), Mr. Payton was RW's Offensive Coordinator.  He then moved to Illinois for a season as an Assistant there.
