FW: [NU Sports] USC vs. UCLA

Not to play the part of USC partisan, which I'm not, but we live in
something of an SC enclave and the university has made enormous strides
in the last 15 years under president Steve Sample. It's now regarded by
many who choose to look past the easy stereotype of what it used to be
-- a football school, no more -- as a first-rate academic institution.

Seriously.

There is a lot of very positive energy at USC right now. There is a
perception that UCLA is having issues owing -- as with all the
University of California schools -- to the state's budget woes.  

My wife, my brother and my sister-in-law are all graduates of the UCLA
law school BTW. 

If things had worked out just a little bit differently, the new
Northwestern president, Morty Schapiro, might well be president right
now at USC. He was a senior dean at SC before going on to Williams and
then to Evanston.

And now over to you, Mr. Bendat, to make a case for UCLA.

Maybe somebody who knows LA better can tell me the difference between
UCLA and USC.

Both are semi-academic schools as with both it is possible to get the
highest quality of education, but neither are known to "force" it on
their otherwise party-centric student body.  They are close
geographically.  About the only difference I can see is that UCLA has
much better basketball tradition and USC has much better football
tradition.

Beyond coaching personality why would a recruit chose one over the
other?
