Hi everyone -
Just to add to Willie's post, Ron Burton served as our Alumni Regent in Boston for many years, and his family continues to carry on his great legacy. His four sons and one daughter are all NU grads, and the four Burton brothers all played football for NU.
Check out the website to learn more about the Ron Burton Training Village (RBTV):

and see the following link within the RBTV website to learn more about Ron's story:

I've heard Ron Jr. tell his dad's story on several occasions, and I never tire of hearing about his dad's remarkable journey to NU and the AFL. For the past few years, the Burtons have hosted the NU New Student Picnic at the Training Village, located about an hour west of Boston in a beautiful, pastoral setting. What a special way to introduce incoming freshmen to a great Northwestern family who's truly committed to making a difference in the lives of young men and women.
All the best,
Steve Nelson

Way more than that, as far as Ron Burton and NU - - he was one of NU's most loyal and accomplished graduates. I encourage everyone who isn't familiar with the life and legacy of this special man to read about him. He devoted himself to people who came from humble beginnings, as he did...he sent all of his kids to NU, he represented NU in many settings with dignity and humility and he appropriately received the most significant alumni honors.
He is the gold standard for NU.
I'm delighted to have known him!

Yes they were known as the dallas texans from Hunt family
Burton only did play with Patriots. After he retired he became a successful insurance agent in the Boston area and used to host an NU BBQ every summer

I believe he played for the Patriots. I don't recall him suiting up for the Eagles.
BTW, there was a great series on Showtime (and perhaps elsewhere) on the growth of the AFL and the eventual merger. Worth watching. Did you know that the Vikings and Cowboys franchises exist only because the fledgling AFL was preparing to put teams into those cities? They did in Dallas, but the Cowboys overshadowed them. That's why they became the Kansas City Chiefs.
