Except that it works, at least it did last year with Nash out at the top. It
always amazed me that even the best Big Ten teams were often befuddled by that
defense. Rarely did teams even get the ball into a position where Juice's size
mismatch was a problem. I think the real key is how the other 4 guys are doing.
Having seen Cobb in person now, I'm pretty sure he's got the ability to fill
Nash's role there, but he's not there yet.
In any case, see Carmody's comments after the game--he knows they can't play
1-3-1 all the time, and has been trying to work on getting them to play well in
other defenses, including match-up zones, but so far (according to Carmody, and
from what I've seen) it hasn't been working.
