[NU Sports] Next year, when we play UNL

Exactly.

So if we follow the same convention, we may find that what the BT and
others settle on is NEB and NW.

Just as UM or UoM without context can be misconstrued, NU can also now
be misconstrued in BT land and will likely fall out of favor.

I don't believe those other schools have issues because for the UM
schools they usually display "MICH" and "MINN" while for the "I" schools
they usually display "IOWA," "ILL," and "IND." The lack of a short
designation for Northwestern makes doing the same difficult. I wouldn't
be surprised if they used "NEB" for Nebraska since that seems like
standard practice already and I don't think that they have a problem
with that.

Don't we have the same "designation" issues today with University of
Michigan/University of Minnesota and University of Iowa/University of
Illinois/Indiana University?

Note that the Big Ten Network has used the "NU" designation for
Northwestern
since its inception. ESPN is the one that has continued to use "NW" -
and
for Nebraska they typically use "Neb." ESPN Blogger (and NU alum) Adam
Rittenberg has said he will use NU for both of them (he'll clarify at
the
first instance, of course). It will be interesting to see how the BTN
approaches it, although putting "NU" and the school color should help
clarify to some degree.
