[NU Sports] Bowls on TV

I'm sure that the programmers at ESPN/ABC look at the bigger picture of draw to schedule
their bowl matchups.

I know that we play our Softball Championship at 11 AM EDT (8 AM PST), because it will be
over by 1 PM (it has to be or we lose coverage). NASCAR and other sports all start around
1 PM, so while our game draws 250,000+ households, there are bigger fish frying out there
on Saturday afternoon.

We'd really like to play the final at 3 PM so we can plan for weather, and get the
consolation games in at a reasonable time. 

I'm sure ESPN has research that shows a more exclusive audience for each team in a bowl
than fans channel surfing. Besides, if there is a blowout somewhere, ESPN's tickler system
at the bottom of the screen can tell you about a "better" game on another ESPN Channel.

Yeah, just like Monday Night Football, all the BCS bowls are on ESPN  
this year.  It's part of ESPN's effort to take over the world (the Big  
Ten Network has essentially followed the same playbook).

Also, note that 4 of the Big Ten Bowl games are at overlapping times  
on New Year's Day: TicketCity, Capital One, Outback, and Gator (3 of  
which feature Big Ten vs. SEC).  The Outback and Capital One use to  
always overlap, but four overlapping Big Ten games is a new development.

You would think they would try to spread out the games featuring the  
same conferences given that they will attract a lot of the same viewers.
