[NU Sports] UCONN in BCS; observations

You are probably right, Eric. However, UCONN is a different team over last 5 games, and they have an incredible kicking game--both PK'ing and punting--and that may help them keep things close. Any team that holds at First and Goal at the 5 in last two minutes and then wins in regulation with 52-yard FG is deserving of respect. I believe UCONN has now earned that respect.
Moreover, Mark A., as always, hit the mark with his observation that UCONN travels well--at least for hoops. I think they will show up in great strength at Fiesta or Orange--especially the latter, since there are so many flights from NYC, Hartford, Providence and Boston to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

With Bernard Pierce, Temple beat UConn; Pierce went down during the Penn St. game; TU would've probably beat Penn St.., and PSU waxed us.
For the most part, the Big East's demise was a fallacy until this year, with strong teams from West Virgina and Cincinnati, and to a certain extent Pitt. But this year, the Big East isn't deserving, and Paul, Randy Edsall is from York County (Pa.), so he has a special place in my heart. That said, I think UConn will get hammered in their BCS game, much like unranked Pitt did 7,8 years ago against Urban Meyer's Utah team.
Illinois. THe Fightin' Zookers must be the the most bizarre team in 1A; a maddening combination of a punishing offense, bonehead execution, and a lousy defense. From my view, they deserve to jump us in the bowl pecking order after the thrashing they gave us at Wrigley, and they're fun to watch right now.
Defensively, we'll have problems, but after looking at Illinois and Wisconsin, anything has to look better. And 12 turnovers in the last 2 games? It has to get better. Down but not out.
Basketball: 5-0 after the thrashing we gave Ga. Tech. Reminded me of the beating we gave NC State last year. Clearly (after Creighton and Ga. Tech) we'll be able to put the ball in the hole better than last year. Shurna, Crawford and Macotullio look physically bigger this season, a combo of weights and another year older? I took a quick look at the stats; we're not getting pushed around on the boards; basically the same rebounds as the opposition.
Now we got to stay healthy. If Shurna, Crawford or Juice get hurt, our conference will take full advantage.
As Roy L. says, GO CATS, BEAT "EM ALL!!! Eric

I know that Stephen hates what he refers to as the "Big Least" and also the
BCS.? I beg to differ tonight, after watching UCONN (my brother-in-law's alma
mater; I live a mile from the Connecticut state line) win a thriller 19-16 over
South Florida--on a 52-yard FG at the same end of the Outback Bowl (the Pirate
Ship end) where Demos was "wide right".? An incredible game that kept me so
captivated, I really don't care who wins between the Sooners and the Huskers.
Stephen:? You are great in so many ways--but it's still college football at this
end of the country--and at "Cuse (where my daughter went) and WVa and Pitt and
so on--there are some damn good players and fans who care.? And there is a
Cinderalla team from Storrs, CT that, like our own 'Cats, has come out of
nowhere to build a program, with a coach (Randy Edsall) who seems like a good,
decent man.
So, while it's not as good as a Purple and White win, I am a happy man right
now.? I would absolutely love it if somehow, someway Coach Edsall could take his
Huskies, and kick some Husker or Sooner tail-at the Fiesta-or Va Tech, if they
go Orange.

P.S.:? UCONN's Stamford Campus is around the corner from Buffalo Wild Wings,
where we had 'Cat game watches all season..
