[NU Sports] UCONN in BCS

The general feeling in Big East country is that UConn will end up in the
Fiesta and Stanford in the Orange. Not real sure what that is based on as
I'm not real sure of the order of picking this year other than the Sugar
getting first pick by virtue of losing Auburn to the BCS Championship game.
The Rose would have had second pick but it is contractually obligated to
TCU as we have already discussed. After the Sugar, must come the Orange for
the projection of Stanford to South Florida to make sense.

UConn will travel well. The Huskies have a loyal fan base accustomed to
travel from following the men's and women's basketball teams and they will
be too excited by the novelty of their first BCS game (and the winter
weather) to stay home. I suspect they will travel much better than say Va.
Tech in its fourth appearance in the Orange since it joined the ACC.
Stanford alums may be as excited about a BCS appearance as we were about
the Rose, but if they go to the Orange Bowl, then their traveling enthusiasm
may be a bit dampened; certainly it won't be as high as it would be if they
were playing in the Rose Bowl.

UConn may not be everyone's(including Stephen's) idea of a BCS caliber team,
but they have been playing well ever since they were shut out by Louisville
about six weeks ago and should at least not embarrass themselves against
whomever they draw. If you want to throw Michigan in their face, let's not
forget that Va. Tech lost to james Madison but nobody seems to be
questioning either the Turkeys' or the ACC's rights to be in the BCS when
the facts will show they and not the Big East are the conference that is
least deserving of automatic qualification based on the BCS' own
qualification standards.

But, let's leave all the political arguments for the offseason. December
practices are about to start and soon Bowl season will be here and we can
enjoy the last, great month of football, and first great month of basketball
while cheering the Cats on to their first bowl win in 60 years and their
march to their first ever March Madness bid.
