You really can't blame Arby for leaving and if I were in his shoes, I'd
probably leave also. He obviously wants the rock in his hands and having
dropped so far on the depth chart... 

Didn't two of our quarterbacks transfer early on this decade (under Walker)
and do very, very well in Div II/III? I think one went to Penn, obviously
another good academic school. One those QBs was a lefty as I recall.

Arby should get his pick of another academic school (and like the rest of
us, I hope he takes his long-term future into account and chooses another
good, demanding school).

PS. Does his transfer count against NU in graduation rates? Or only if he
doesn't graduate from the university to which he is transferring?

Northwestern Running Back Arby Fields is Transferring
EVANSTON, Ill.-Northwestern University head football coach Pat Fitzgerald
announced today that
sophomore running back Arby Fields (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos) is leaving
the Wildcat program.
"We're disappointed that Arby has made the decision to leave Northwestern,"
said Fitzgerald. "He is an
outstanding young man and we wish him nothing but the best in his future
endeavors."
In two seasons, Fields played in 23 career games and totaled 480 rushing
yards (3.3 ypc), 21 receptions
(5.0 ypr) and six rushing TD's. Fields, who started seven games, rushed for
a career-high 96 yards versus
Illinois State on Sept. 11, 2010.
Fields also was a starting center fielder for the Wildcat baseball team,
batting .292 with 27 RBI and 8
stolen bases.
