[NU Sports] Draft stuff

Remember when Randy Walker recruited Kafka, Brewer and Peterman as "Quarterbacks?"
We all thought he was a little nutty, but he maintained that he got 3 good athletes (if my memory serves) and that they'd all be given a chance to show what they could do in camp.
Peterman read the tea leaves first, and moved to WR where he eventually flourished.
Brewer did the same but redshirted as a QB (and stayed that for another year) so he really didn't start to shine until last Fall - he was always one of the fastest guys in the WR pool once he moved over. I seem to remember that he played a few games as Kafka's backup.
Then there was Kafka, who just could out pass C.J. Bacher, even though you can make the case that Fitz liked Kafka more than Bacher. The problem was that up until last year, Kafka just couldn't move the Cats up the field. Once he finally earned the job he became "the guy" and did a really nice job.
Final analysis of RW's experiment?
3 QBs in one class - all have NFL contracts for now.
Not bad

Had a bad senior year.
College teams are supposed to perform their best with a senior QB.
Illinois tanked. Juice got benched. Football career pretty much over.
Hope he went to class.
You are right that the contrast between Kafka and Williams is dramatic.
Shows how risky the path is from college to the NFL.

Juice was not drafted. He has been invited to try out only by the Bears.
You are totally right. He was certainly the media darling their Rose
Bowl year, talked about in the same breath as the best college QBs in
the land.
Quite the fall.
