[NU Sports] 3 more cats to try out NFL

So many of the modern offenses and defenses are now read and react
around some basic set. NFL players today have to understand all of the
nuances and options of the various schemes that coaches dream up. So
academic skills also give our guys an edge over the kid who came out
early and didn't go to class.

If NU continues to demonstrate that it can hold its own in the BT with
regard to NFL recruiting, that will only enhance Fitz's ability to
recruit the sort of talented smart "character" kids he is looking for.

Yes character is obviously an issue when drafting or signing. Talent is
probably the biggest criterion but after too many setbacks with guys
having various character issues GM's have to weigh that in as well. It
is very likely that on average an NU guy will have less character issues
because of our recruiting standards. I'm sure GM's conclude similarly
just as business recruiters assume that an NU grad has already passed
rigorous screens from our admissions committee and from graduation
standards

What a change from where we were as few as ten years ago.

I know there are those who are concerned about our ability to recruit
top talent.

This growth in NFL players validates Fitz's claim that he is recruiting
kids with the potential to play on Sunday.

It also is evidence of how the NFL has changed too. "Character" in the
NFL use to mean someone who is colorful. Now the pendulum is swinging
back to value guys who are coachable, hard working, and respect the
game.

Zeke Markhausen will try out for daBares (who could use him and the next
guy on the list)

Andrew Brewer - with the Patriots - don't forget he can throw for TDs
too.

And one more to rile up the Giant fans among us:

Brendan Smith to try out for the hated Redskins.

With Barry (Minister of Defense) Cofield on the field for the Giants, we
could have former Cats on most of the East this year.
