[NU Sports] NFL Draft

I too loved watching McManis over the years. You may remember he was a
Northern Illinois pledge who became a "decommit" when he was offered an NU
scholarship. There were many people on the Rivals board who complained when
he was given a scholarship, calling him a "reach" whose only other
scholarhip offer was from a directional state school.

The one time I met Mark Murphy at an NU event we chatted about the young man
-- then a frosh -- that they were calling "Batman". Murphy quickly ditched
me but did nod in agreement that this young fellow was a diamond in the
rough.

He was a great player for NU and I am willing to bet he will be an
outstanding NFL player. I have a great memory of him nailing that
interception to end the Illinois game. I watched that game with my family
(parents, sister and brother-in-law are all U of I alums) and it was sweet
for us "eggheads" that day, thanks Sherrick!
