[NU Sports] HOOSIERS lives!

I am seeing a disturbing tendency among listers to ASSUME our entry into the 2011 tournament. I may be mistaken, but only 5 Big Ten teams made the dance. Ohio State (14 wins), Purdue (14 wins), Michigan State (14 wins), Wisconsin (13 wins), and Minnesota (9 wins, great conference tournament run). Illinois won 10 conference games, and stayed home. We won 7.

So we have 2 ways to get in...win 13 conference games, or have a great Big Ten tournament run.

We have never done anything in the Big Ten tournament, so that one is tough to count on.

Can we possibly win 12 or 13 conference games ? Which 5 or 6 games are winnable - on top of the 7 we won this year ? Can anybody list 12 or 13 winnable Big Ten games in 2011 ? Remembering that 8 games will be on the road ? And that as many as 2 might be against Penn State ?

f Butler can (deservedly) make Final Fourt--which I just love--then NU is bound
or dancing glory in 2011. I am now going on record that we go to the
ournament next year. There is a morning sports show in NYC called "Boomer and
arton", co-hosted by Boomer Esiason and a somewhat loundmouthed (but funny) guy
amed Craig Carton. Carton's motto for NY Jets during their improbable playoff
un this year was "Why not us?" I say to all on the List that we adopt those 3
imple words as our mantra next hoops season, although I am happy to lend it to
he Butler Frickin' Bulldogs for the next 9 days. Since my bracket is busted
nyway (i.e., even if my predicted champion, W.Virginia, wins, I think I lose
nyway), I am now officially a Butler fan until the final buzzer and nets are
ut down a week from Monday. They remind me of the gridiron 'Cats in
995--just keep winning and leave everyone scratching their heads.

'll still cheer for MSU and the Big Ten, but you just had to have goosebumps
day watching Butler's win (and not just because they were one of the foes on
r dissed NC schedule).
t's just a perfect story that the school where "Hoosiers" was filmed, a school
4500 students, will be heading home for the first Final Four in Indiana's new
sketball palace (which, along with the gorgeous Conseco Fieldhouse was
signed to mimic Butler's historic Hinkle Fieldhouse).
he last time Hoosierland hosted the Final Four of their native sport, we had
nderella George Mason, but this one has to be so much sweeter because it's the
metown team.
t's a shame Purdue and OSU (especially the Buckeyes who just looked spent and
ve out at the end) couldn't win to make it a near perfect (no IU, so near)
ursome with Butler and nearby Kentucky for Indianapolis. That town is going to
 insane the next week!
s they say down there, in 49 other states, it's just basketball ...
O BULLDOGS!!! Go little guy!!!
o Big Ten!
