[NU Sports] At the end

Sorry guys, but I disagree.

You could use the same argument to claim that, because it is a team
game, it is inappropriate to recognize any individual achievements.

The reality is that it IS a stats-driven world and many of these kids
have aspirations to play on Sunday.

The stats at least provide those who are INDIVIDUALLY playing above the
level of their competitors the opportunity to shine even though they may
be on a losing team. That is good news for teams like NU that want to
recruit top level players but can't promise the same winning percentage
as the "powerhouse" schools.

I do agree with you that the world would be simpler and more pleasant
place if we just kept track of wins and losses. W win by 1 point would
count no more or less than a win by 50. I think that it could make the
game a little more civilized. As a result, I doubt it would ever
happen.

Jeff

He was a "co-offensive POW" shared with Michigan's RB Carlos Brown last
week, for the record. But, it's hard to argue against a guy that
completed 16 consecutive passes to start the game and set a school
record for completion percentage while throwing for almost 400 yards and
became the first Big Ten player in 5 years to record a TD passing,
rushing, and receiving.

I concur that guys really only deserve awards if in winning efforts,
although I acknowledge that in today's "fantasy football" world, huge
stats carry a ton of weight. He did have a big error on the night (the
INT that turned into Syracuse's game winning FG drive) and NU lost, but
in today's stat-driven world it's hard to dismiss those numbers,
especially when there wasn't a ton of other performances as well rounded
as his that week.

Does anybody else have a problem with Kafka getting Big Ten
honors last week against Syracuse despite losing the game ?? Doesn't
this reinforce many of the bad things about football (i.e. stats are
everything).? The Big Ten needs to amend its rules so that only players
on teams that win that week are considered for Big Ten player of the
week honors

	Amen!?
	?
Other teams have seen our challenges with run exploited by
eastern and are going to make us stop the run.?
	?
On offense, we're living through the first year of a new qb. He
happens to be a senior, but this is new territory for him and it shows.
I have hopes that we will see his decision making improve, but I'm not
sure that life is going to get a lot better on D. We may have to live
with high scoring as our gameplan for the rest of the season.?
