[NU Sports] Ugh, injuries

At issue is whether our guys in the defensive backfield step up and play, or
get picked on and show why they are #2.

A good game plan always tries out both sides of the defense early in the
game to see who is covering what and how well they are doing. EMU knew early
on apparently, that McManis would not be out there, and they visited his
zone early and often (by news accounts). Expect 'Cuse to do the same

BTW we will be chatting from my grandson's birthday party - maybe even
watching if we can get the cable to work right.

Not good news on the injury front, especially after losing so many guys last
season (although NU did have a lot of backups who stepped up on the way to 9
wins).

McManis has had a hamstring issue since camp and has been limited and was
held out last week (and we saw EMU pick on what was his side a lot). Vaughn
came out in the 4th quarter, which meant redshirt freshman Demetrius Dugar
is the CB - which won't be good against a team with some talent at the WR
position like Syracuse.

And despite having an RB by committee, losing your most experienced runner
is never good, hopefully Simmons can see the field Saturday (he's also
pretty solid on kickoff returns).
